October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and while we give special tribute during this month, we also acknowledge the contributions of Pennsylvanians with disabilities all year long.

Philadelphia PA CareerLink® Suburban Station Temporary Closure
PA CareerLink® Suburban Station, located at 1617 JFK Boulevard, 2nd floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103 will temporarily close for renovations. The last day of service to the public was Friday, June 20, 2014. The office expects to re-open to the public around October 1, 2014.
The zip code table which is used to notify new claimants of the PA CareerLink® closest to their address is being updated to refer them to the PA CareerLink® North Philadelphia located at 990 Spring Garden St. Philadelphia PA 19123, Telephone 215-560-5465. The center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Gov. Corbett Delivers Budget Address
Governor Tom Corbett presented his proposed 2014 – 15 budget February 4. The address, before a joint session of the PA legislature, took place in the PA House chamber.
L&I Secretary Julia Hearthway and Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary C. Alan Walker presented a post-budget address later that afternoon in the Capitol Media Center to discuss Jobs1st PA, the governor’s initiative to foster job creation and economic development in the commonwealth.
State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES)

SIDES is a new, web-based system that allows the Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) and employers to communicate more efficiently when an individual files a new unemployment compensation claim. The system transmits questions from L&I about the individual's claim to the employer electronically, and allows the employer to respond electronically, which will enhance the timeliness and accuracy of UC claims.

A claimant can continue to collect full UC benefits while participating in training provided by a business, and the business is entitled to receive incentive payments if the claimant is hired and certain requirements are met.
